5 Tips to Prolonging Your
Carpet's Life -
Rearrange furniture often in rooms that receive high traffic.
-
Change your furnace filter monthly or more often during dry, dusty times.
-
Consult a professional carpet company. There are so many different products on
the market today, it is very easy to cause more problems than resolve them. -
Vacuum regularly. This is one of the most important things to prolong the life of carpet and it should be done weekly
or even daily if the area needs it. It not only loosens the soil and keeps it from building up, but also keeps the fibers
of the carpet in an upright position. -
Price versus value. The lowest
price is not always going to be the best value. Beware of "bait and switch." If a company runs an ad that looks
too good to be true -it is!

Carpet Talk: Clever Quick Fixes We all know
it's not always safe to take metters into our hands when it comes to lifting a bed stain from carpet or upholstery. It's best
to have your carpet care professional on your speed dial 99% of the time. That said, on occasion, immediate action can save
your pricey investment and we've got a few tips that have proven to work for homeowners just like you (especially if you have
taken the precaution of having your carpet sprayed with a protector (Scotchguard or DuPont Teflon). We make no guarantees
because all carpet is different, but if you're caught in a bind, you might want to try any of these four quick fixes.
-
Commercial glass cleaner is usually formulated with rubbing alcohol,
a great quick fix for a small spill like coffee -but only if you use colorless glass cleaner! Soak the area; let it sit for
5 minutes and blot. It might do the trick and it won't leave residues that attract furniture grime. If all you've got is the
blue stuff, forget about it! -
We've had great success using hair
spray (it also contains rubbing alcohol) on small pen ink stains. Spray and blot with a damp rag as soon as
you notice the spot in the pile. -
If you've got young kids, you know
getting them to the bathroom immediately after they announce, "Mommy, I don't feel well." Acidic vomit (even if
it's from your four-legged creatures needs to be addressed immediately and the solution is in your fridge. Either club
soda or a mixture of baking soda and water will do the trick. -
If there's one household item that's indispensable, it's salt. Not only does it add zest to food
but a number of household items can be cleaned up and made to look like new with this household staple. For grease-based carpet
stains, try rubbing paint thinner on the stain with a 100% cotton cloth, then dump a generous amount of table salt on the
area to absorb the grease. Vacuum up the salt and you should be stain-free.

6 Tips to Keep Your Carpet Beautiful
-
Use a high quality vacuum. Bargain vacuums often don't have the ability to lift all the grime and grit from carpet
fibers. Over time those soils grind into the delicate fibers, cutting them causing carpets to look dull and dirty even after
being freshly cleaned. -
Vacuum high traffic areas on a daily basis.
Peripheral areas need slightly less attention, but shoudl still be vacuumed at least twice per week. Your carpet was designed
for frequent vacuuming. Daily vacuuming of your carpet will not wear it out. -
Your carpet has a built-in protective barrier that can break down over time with day to day use. Renew that barrier
to protect against stains and resoiling with a professional application of Scotchguard or DuPont Telfon every time you have
your carpet cleaned. -
Keep dirt away from your carpet by placing commercial
floor mats near high-traffic entry doors. -
Don't be afraid to ask friends
and family to remove their shoes when they come into your home. -
When
spills happen be sure to clean them up immediately!
